If your car’s engine gets too hot, the vehicle will likely experience a significant loss of power. In some cases, excessive heat can ruin piston rings, bearings and other important engine components. Therefore, it is important that you diagnose the cause of the problem as quickly as possible.

A damaged radiator can cause an engine to overheat as it won’t be able to remove excessive heat that builds up inside of it as the vehicle is being driven. Alternatively, a coolant leak might be the cause of dangerously high engine temperatures.

It may be possible to temporarily cool the engine by pouring clean water into the radiator coolant reservoir. After doing so, be sure to bring your vehicle to a professional for service. He or she will inspect the radiator, check for leaks and take other steps to keep your car in good condition.
